Patna Planetarium (Taramandal)


Patna Planetarium or popularly known as Taramandal (Literal meaning - Collection of Stars) is one of the most popular tourist destination in Patna. It is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. It present shows on astronomical facts and other universe related aspect in order to spread the scientific awareness among the people.

It s situated near Income Tax Roundabout (IT Golamber), off the Bailey Road. Patna Museum is situated close to it in the opposite direction. The Planetarium also held educational and scientific seminars and exhibitions.

The Planetarium held four show a day at regular internal. During holiday, a lot of people visit it. The entry fee is Rs 30 (as in Oct, 2013). Monday is off day.

Indira Gandhi Planetarium Patna

The foundation stone of Indira Gandhi Science Complex (Taramandal) was laid in 1989. The work was completed in 1993 and inaugurated in the same year.

Patna Planetarium is an important place in Patna. Due to security concern, photo taking inside the building during show is not allowed. However, it does not affect the wonderful experience of watching the show. One should not miss Planetarium while visiting the city.

  1. I am a great fan of astronomy. I spend long hours star gazing and keep surfing the internet for some unique information. All plateriums in India have fabulous shows that I have always enjoyed. Hope the Patna planetarium is equally enjoyable.
